Today I had a teaching session about the ugly side of medicine. The medicolegal side.
It covered a lot of example scenarios about doctors getting into trouble and their outcome. Most of them were somewhat small (generally alcohol related or property damage) and received relatively harsh but punishments that eventually pass. Interesting, personality problems and trust problems are MUCH more serious and got a doctor struck off because of these.
It really reminds me about how doctors are humans that are expected to perform above normal human level. That the system is unforgiving and once latch onto a doctor, will beat the doctor down to the ground and occasionally bury them (by being struck off or making doctors suicidal). I normally don’t operate daily with this fear in mind but maybe from now onwards, I should.
Need to focus a lot on taking care of myself and my love ones.
